Stooping down low, you rummage amongst the pebbles in search of the perfect skimming stone. Fingertips fumbling, you feel your way, knowing instinctively when you’ve found the one. Smooth to the touch, lightweight and beautifully curved. Carefully positioning it between forefinger and thumb, you throw, watching as it bounces one, two, three across the water, then sinks with a joyful plop to the seabed. Not your best effort, but soothing nonetheless. You try again repeatedly, any worries of the day washing out to sea with each graceful throw.
Scooping up a handful of pebbles, you stash them in your pocket but keep your hand there, delighting in the tactility of the sea-smoothed stones. Meandering the coast to you is an escape, filling your soul with happiness every time you brave the elements in search of beachy treasure. Inhaling deeply, and saturating your lungs with salty air, you muster up some strength for the uphill climb back home, the promise of a piping hot cuppa spurring you on.
Sea mist moving inland, you turn the key in the lock and head inside, blinking to adjust to the darkness. Turning the dial of your hallway dimmer switch, you bathe the space in light and, wandering into the dark kitchen, you flick on the Waldorf pebble lamp on the countertop. Soothing, serene and a reminder of your beach jaunts, it brings ambience to your kitchen, softly illuminating it, while you make yourself a cuppa and grab a biscuit from the barrel.
Sinking into your favourite armchair by the window, you dunk your chocolate digestive into your tea, and crunch, watching as the mist drifts back out to sea, revealing the fishing boats bobbing merrily on the surface. Cocooned in your beautifully lit space, you relax, as the sea creeps ever closer, the early evening moon reflected across the surface.
