You’ll have noticed that our headline is missing the SALE word and you may be a bit disappointed by that… However, Black Friday has a different meaning for us and so once again we’ll be forgoing a Black Friday sale and instead, will continue to lend a hand to the kids and young teens we’ve supported for the past few years.
The youngsters in question get support from a community initiative in Harehills called CATCH. Near to our HQ in Leeds, it’s run by a great guy called Ash – he provides a safe and welcoming place for them to go, keeping them off the streets and out of harm’s way. Last year, we asked if there was anything they needed that we could get more involved in.
The answer was a definite yes… The centre had a room used as a social hub, but it lacked personality and needed a bit of TLC so one of our interior designers, Xander, got to work finding out how the kids and volunteers used the space, and also what their wish list was for the changes.
Fast forward to now and the space is almost unrecognisable. Not only did Xander reimagine the social space, but he also gave his recommendations for the reception area which is now the centre’s fully functioning cafe bar.
New lighting, a fresh coat of paint, wooden flooring and lots of plants bring a natural element to support general wellbeing, revitalising the social hub. The kids and volunteers now have a welcoming space to spend time in, improving their social experiences and keeping them safe.
New French doors have also been added, thanks to local glazing company Morley Glass, providing direct access to the farm outside which was built by the centre’s volunteers and houses CATCH’s resident goats!
Dowsing & Reynolds raises money all year round through staff product auctions. Proceeds from these will be used towards further renovations and equipment upgrades at CATCH, and in the last few months alone we’ve raised nearly £500. To find out more about CATCH and the work they do in the Harehills community, head to their website or follow them on Facebook.
