Rebelliously kicking a rogue pebble with your chunky boot, you watch as it skims along the waves before plunging to the depths. Keeping your eyes peeled for particularly good skimming stones, a chunk of sea glass catches your eye. Smooth to the touch and virtually opaque, the treasure is stashed quickly in your pocket – a rudimentary fidget toy for restless hands that need something tactile to amuse them as you potter.
Edging closer to the shoreline, you let the water lick at your boots, leaving a salty residue behind. Plucking an inky blue mussel shell from the shoreline, you clasp it carefully between your fingertips, dipping it into the sea to remove the sand, revealing the colours in all their glory, rich against the murky grey horizon.
