Get your guest bathroom ready for Christmas with 5 easy tips from Co-Founder Ally Dowsing-Reynolds
Hosting friends and family this Christmas? Make them feel at home by transforming your guest bathroom into an indulgent, spa-like retreat with just a few simple tweaks that’ll help them relax and unwind. From festive scents to adding convenience with fixtures and fittings, Ally Dowsing-Reynolds shares her top tips and tricks.
1. De-clutter
“It’s really easy for guest bathrooms to become a dumping ground for things like shampoo refills or products you rarely use, so de-cluttering is a great place to start.
Starting with a clear space will help you see what updates you can make easily and will create a blank canvas for your guests to fill with their favourite self-care products while they’re staying with you.”
2. Update your fixtures and fittings
“Imagine a friend is coming into the bathroom and put yourself in their shoes. Does your tap look a little old? Do you have any bathroom hooks in there for guests to hang their dressing gowns or towels on?
Some simple tweaks and additions to your hardware can make all the difference in creating a spa-like environment, and these are things you can often install yourself within a day.
Gold hardware will introduce an air of luxury, while silver tends to feel more calming and tranquil – especially if you’ve got a sage green colour scheme – silver works really well with those paler green tones.
Match your tap to your towel rails, robe hooks and toilet roll holders to create consistency.”
3. Try something new
“The guest bathroom is a great place to trial something a bit ‘out there’ as it tends to be a smaller space that gets used less often. It’s where you can really let your imagination come to life, and your guests will love being in a space that feels different to the rest of the house.
Experiment with colourful additions like a playful pink tap, some patterned wallpaper or some DIY wall panels (Naturewall have some great options for bathrooms) and see how it feels. It might be that it gives you some confidence to trial new ideas with the rest of your home, or it might just be that one special room that makes you and your guests smile.”
4. Add some faux foliage
“There’s nothing more calming than being surrounded by luscious, vibrant plants, but if we’re being honest, not everyone has the time or the will to keep them looking their best.
Investing in quality faux foliage for your bathroom will give you that same tranquil feeling, without the fuss or maintenance.
Try placing trailing ivy on a shelf for example, or position a fiddle leaf fig plant to sit in your line of sight while you’re relaxing in the bath.”
5. Add a few Christmas scented candles
“Christmas scented candles will always bring a feeling of warmth and comfort, but not everyone loves the same scents. Some prefer sweeter scents, while others might like something with a bit more depth.
Instead of going for one big candle, choose maybe three smaller ones and let your guests light their favourites. They can alternate depending on how they’re feeling, and this will help them to really make the guest bathroom their own for the duration of their stay.”
