Starfished across the bed, you stare intently at the moon, casting its bright white light out into the inky sky, half concealed by clouds, illuminating everything in its path. Since childhood, you’ve slept with the curtains open, watching as bats flit by, moths dance at the window and listening out for the distant hooting of an owl carrying on the breeze. A soothing and tranquil ritual you now rely on to drift off to sleep. Watching as the moon makes its way across the sky, you’re mesmerised by the shadowy patterns the hollow craters create. The rough, stony texture you could almost reach out and touch.
Drowsy now, your gaze falls on the bunch of Eucalyptus standing on your bedside table, its leaves silhouetted against the wall. Bathed in white light, it oozes mystery, the vibrant green now cloaked in a ghostly grey hue. Intrigued, you reach out and touch them, your fingers brushing against the rock effect vase that harbours them. Itself tactile and moon-like with minuscule grey and pale blue craters. Tracing the patina with your fingertips as a contented smile spreads across your face, you feel your eyelids are so heavy now. Nestling down beneath the duvet, you're safe in your comfy sanctuary, succumbing to sleep as your eyes close on the beautiful world outside.
Awakening at sunrise, delight floods through you as you marvel at the intensely orange orb that's taken the place of the moon in the sky, casting bright rays onto your walls that leave you feeling energised and ready for the day. Sitting up, you observe the beautiful bedside foliage a while longer. Its vibrancy has returned once more. Swinging your legs out of bed, you look around for a weekend project, a way to make your bedroom even more cocooning. Perhaps a new wall lamp would make the transition from day to night a little cosier.
