Trudging across a long-since ploughed farmer’s field, you navigate the tussocks of spear grass standing firm amongst the sun-baked soil. Watching your step through the undulating furrows, you simultaneously thread your fingertips through the increasingly dense waist-high stalks. Plucking seed heads as you go, throwing them idly into the air as your canine walking companions bound back to you, tails wagging eagerly, ready for their ball to be launched back into the wilderness.
Herding cows moo loudly in a distant field, and you watch as a murmuration of starlings soars into the sky to avoid trampling. Calling your dogs back with a high-pitched whistle, you can't help but grin at the spectacle of their heads bobbing through the grass as they bounce back into sight, bursting from the field triumphantly - with the ball!
Launching their toy as far as you can to buy yourself a few moments of peace, you find a low grassy mound to rest on. Almost concealed by a circle of towering grasses, you watch it sway in the afternoon breeze, the late summer buds exploding like miniature vibrant green fireworks against the bright blue sky.
Strolling home, you unlock the back door and twist the dimmer switch, giggling as the dogs rush to their food bowls. Dog's appetites satiated, you sink into the leather armchair by the patio doors. Tranquil and calm with lots of faux spear grasses, pampas and fountain grass, this space beautifully reflects your love for the great outdoors.
